Description:
Details: This beautiful impression of Michael Mazur's etching "The Artist" is numbered 43/50 and signed in pencil in the margin. Dating from 1968, this image appears in Hansen's catalogue raisonnŽ of Mazur's graphic works (163). This piece was part of a series of experiments with cut plates created during Mazur's Guggenheim year. The print measures approx. 38"x25" overall.

This particular image has been accessioned into the collection of the Smithsonian. Other work by Mazur has been exhibited at MOMA, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Brooklyn Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A retrospective of his prints opened at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 2000, traveling to the Minneapolis Art Institute, and StanfordÕs Cantor Center, among others. He won awards from the Tiffany Foundation, The National Institute of Arts and Letters, the Guggenheim Foundation and a Distinguished Career award from the Southern Graphics Council. Mazur died in 2009.
