SKECHTRAVEL
The red SKETCHBOOK in a wooden case contains 120 A4 pages of artwork from 71 internationally renowned artists from the film, animation, illustration, comic and children's book fields.
Highlighting the collection of prestigious artists who contributed to the Sketchtravel sketchbook are
Oscar winning film director and co-founder of Studio Gibli, Hayao Miyazaki;
animation legend Glen Keane;
Frederic Back, a two-time Academy Award winner for Animated Short Film;
and acclaimed French illustrator Rebecca Dautremer.
There are many artists from Pixar, Dreamworks, and Disney.
Each of the 71 artists was given a blank page upon which to express themselves in whichever medium they chose - paint, pencil or collage, for instance - with each completed page inspiring the next.
They then had to hand-deliver the sketchbook to another artist, and this continued for 5 years.
Proceeds from the auction and royalties from the book's publication will be donated to the international literacy non-profit, Room to Read.

ROOM TO READ:

ROOM TO READ
The artists have mostly voted for the Association « Room to Read » because they share the same values. A book created by a community is going to help children to access to knowledge through books.
Over 300 million children around the world do not have access to education and most likely will never learn to read or write. Room to Read believes that all children, regardless of gender or background, have a right to education. By empowering children through this lifelong gift, Room to Read see a world in which people are able to realize their full potential.

SKETCHTRAVEL PROJECT
Sketchtravel is the name of an artistic experience initiated independently by illustrators Daisuke Tsutsumi and Gerald Guerlais. The challenge is to share a real sketchbook with 120 A4 pages, between 71 international artists from the fields of comics, illustration, and animation. Each artist creates freely an illustration. The journey of this federative sketchbook, which took 4 years, started in October 2006 and ended in November 2011. To this day, twelve nationalities were involved.
The original book will be auctioned to benefit an international charity. The proceeds of the bookstores sales of the book will be donated to an international charity too.
One of the major features of this book is that it does not result from the addition of individual sketches, drawings or paintings, collected and compiled in a book. Indeed, it is a real A4 sketchbook transmitted from hand to hand, between 71 artists around the globe.
Participating artists can learn from what their predecessors have drawn in this unique object. No editorial project has brought together as many visual artists around a common object.
If many collectives can be found, Sketchtravel is the first based on the principle of transmission, where natural emulation and influences between artists give a unique character to their works.
The theme is not imposed. Anxious not to standardize the work, the initiators, of different cultures have believed that the stress of the blank page would ensure a unique and unexpected result, far from charitable initiatives snubbed by the public because of their consensual and formatted tone.
The artists are free to use any tools, as long as they do not damage the pages of the sketchbook.Since the project started, in October 2006, eclecticism prevails. An artistic dialogue is established around the world in the greatest respect. A lively emulation accompanies the project, monitored and animated by thousands of Internet users who encourage artists via the official blog and the blogs of artists.
