Description: Zschokke, Heinrich. ALAMONTADE; OR, THE GALLEY SLAVE. Philadelphia: Grubb and Reazor, 1845. 8vo. 230, iv pp. Publisher's green cloth with spine lettered in gilt. Corners and edges with wear/loss, spine with skew, short tear near head of rear hinge and some light fraying at spine ends. Some light to moderate foxing throughout, light and faded water-staining to lower margins near front, one leaf with some chipping along front margin (no loss), Very Good overall. **************************************** First American edition of this early 19th century German work. This edition is quite scarce with OCLC locating only two institutional copies. The present is accompanied by an 1862 Virginia 50 dollar Treasury Note.
