Description: 1885-1979 projet d'album no. 1 signed, dated 1916 and annotated F 1225 gouache and watercolour on paper 24 by 23.5 cm., 9 1/2 by 9 1/4 in. Executed in 1916. Provenance Artcurial, Paris Sale: Christie's, London, 30th November 1982, lot 161 Exhibited Monchengladbach, Stadtisches Museum, Rationale Spekulationen, 1972, no. 63 In Portugal in 1916 the artist with her brother Robert and other friends including Guillaume Apollinaire and Blaise Cendrars conceived the idea of mounting travelling exhibitions and publishing albums of art. Album I was to consist of a gathering of poems accompanied by interpretations executed in pochoir by various artists. Initial enthusiasm was followed by troubles and although the artist produced several designs, the project was never fully realised.
