Description: AN ANECDOTE ABOUT CONTINENTAL MONEY: "IT WAS TOLD TO ME BY LAFAYETTE" SPARKS, JARED. Two Autograph Letters Signed, one brief. The first, to Frederick A. Lane, citing the page in his Writings of George Washington (1834-42) on which Lane may find information about Continental money. 1 page, 8vo, with integral blank; remnants of prior mounting along vertical fold on terminal page. The second, to "Sir," sending his autograph. 16mo; mounted at corners to a larger sheet. (MRS) Cambridge, 3 March 1856; 8 March 1859

Notes: "The anecdote to which you refer about continental money will be found in the Life of Washington, (Writings Vol. I. p. 333.) It was told to me by Lafayette, who you will see was present when the incident happened."
