Description: STEVENSON, ROBERT LOUIS
Works
. New York: Scribners, 1922. The Valima Edition, number 97 of 1030 sets. 26 volumes. Half green morocco gilt. Spines darkened, minor wear, sold with a partial set, being one of 30 presentation sets but lacking ten volumes.
This set was published under the direction of F.N. Doubleday, who directed subscriptions and sought out the copyrights to Stevenson's works published in America. This followed his success in publishing the works of Kipling: "I became ambitious to get the works of Robert Louis Stevenson, which in those days were not published in uniform binding." (F.N. Doubleday, The Memoirs of a Publisher, p. 22).
