Lot 75: Sun 78 RPM Test Pressing of Elvis Presley's First Recording "My Happiness/That's When Your Heartaches Begin" Sent to Janelle McComb

This original test pressing was sent to Janelle McComb in November of 1993 and in the letter dated November 12, the president, chairman and CEO of Sun Entertainment Corporation, Shelby S. Singleton, Jr. writes, "Dear Janelle: Just a note to say thanks for the phone call. We at Sun appreciate all you do for The Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation. As promised, enclosed is a test pressing of Elvis's very first recording. Please let me know if any of us at Sun can be of any assistance to you."
The test pressing contains originally recorded "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin," Elvis' first song recordings (the original acetate of which was sold by Graceland Auctions in January 2015 for a record price). Janelle McComb was a lifelong friend of Elvis and the Presleys and the executive director of The Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation. The package sent to Janelle contains the letter; the test pressing in a white paper sleeve and white cardboard holder with a blank white label; six new, unused round Sun blank record label stickers; a manila sleeve; and the original mailing box with label from Sun Entertainment Corporation to Ms. Janelle McComb at 205 South Foster Drive, Tupelo, MS 38801. The package is postmarked November 12, 1993. A great opportunity to own your own test pressing of this historic recording! Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated. The record measures 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter.
Condition Report: The test pressing is in like-new condition with printed white label and only minor dust on the surface, the manila sleeve is also in like-new unused condition, the white sleeve is indented around the record from storage with slight adhesive residue stain down the sides, the stickers are unused but show signs of adhesive bleed to the front of the stickers, the letter is in good condition with minor creasing overall from handling, and the mailing box is in good condition overall with the seals broken from opening and âSun Record test pressingâ written later in black marker on the front.
