The Swallow Doretti was originally registered in 1955 in England with the license plate RLL 276. The vehicle can be traced back to the property of formula 2 mentor, Mr. Duncan Rabagliati. In 1998, the car was in the possession of the Marston Wolverhampton Heritage Trust. In 2002 it was passed on to private ownership of Mr. Trevor Jones Davies in Newport. According to the V5C (British registration certificate), the vehicle had a total of 3 previous car owners. The Doretti was brought to Germany in 2010, where it was until now part of a Southern German car collection.
From 1954 to 1955 the British Swallow Sidecar Company built only one model, the Doretti. A two-seated roadster with chrome molybdenum tube frame and full aluminum body. The vehicle mechanics like engine, transmission, axles, etc. were based on the Triumph TR2. The stiffer frame and slightly set back engine made the car exceptionally easy to handle and until today it is a pure pleasure to casually move it.
Unfortunately, production was stop in 1955. Sir William Lyons, owner of Jaguar, had threatened Tube Investments - the parent company of Swallow Coach Building - not to place further orders. He probably saw danger to his own Jaguar XK120 models in the Swallow Doretti. Back then, the press had presumably given the Doretti way too good reviews regarding its handling characteristics, the XK 120, however, were more ponderous.
Today there are approximately 180 known Dorettis worldwide. Offered vehicle with the English license plate RLL 276 is said to be the last built and sold model ever.
The Swallow Doretti is in an optically and mechanically good condition, runs smoothly even during hot weather.
The vehicle has a TÜV approval according to § 21 and § 23 and may be immedialtely registered with H-certification in Germany. The mileage of 38500 mls can be traced at least over the last 10 to 15 years through the annual MOT inspections in England, because the MOT acceptance certificates are chronologically available.
