Paysage d'‚t‚ dans la lande signed with monogram (lower left) oil on canvas 20 x 303/8in. (50.8 x 76.8cm.) PROVENANCE Guillaume Campo, Antwerp. Hammer Galleries, New York (20815). Richmond Gallery, London. Acquired from the above by the present owner circa 1979. LITERATURE J. Sutter, Les N‚o Impressionnistes, Neuchƒtel 1970 (illustrated p. 207). NOTES Ronald Feltkamp will include this painting in his forthcoming van Rysselberghe catalogue raisonn‚. By the mid-1890s, van Rysselberghe's pointillist researches had reached their maturity. His synthesis of Seurat's lessons in optical mixture - the juxtaposition of small dots of complementary hue designed to fuse in the spectator's eye - served him well in his preferred genres of landscape and, unusually for an artist of the divisionist vanguard, portraiture. SALESROOM NOTICE This painting will be included in the forthcoming Van Rysselberghe catalogue raisonne prepared by Pascal de Sadeleer and Olivier Bertrand for the Belgian Art Research Institute. Please note the following literature reference: J. Sutter, Les N‚o Impressionnistes, Neuchƒtel 1970, (illustrated p. 207). We are grateful to Olivier Bertrand for this further information.
