Two Day Royalty, Fine Art & Antique Sale
Title:
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor - an important
Description:
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor - an important three coloured gold (not hallmarked) triple loop ring inscribed 'Darling ... Wallis ... 19.6'. The date refers to the Duchess's birthday of 19th June. The Duke wore two triple loop rings on the little finger of his left hand until his death. This ring is one of two rings sold by Sotheby's at the auction of the Duchess of Windsor's jewels on 2nd and 3rd April 1987 as Lot 168 described as 'A three coloured triple hoop ring in yellow, white and red gold, inscriptions indistinct; and another similar ring, indistinctly inscribed: Darling Wallis 19.6 (2) which fetched £18,000. As these were the only two triple hoop rings in the sale. It is very likely that they are the rings worn by the Duke. They were purchased at the sale by The Daily Mail newspaper who gave them away as competition prizes. This ring was won by Mrs Rose Russel of Clacton on Sea whose daughter is now selling it. Sold with letters of authenticity from Sothebys, the Daily Mail and various press cuttings.
