St. Louis, MO, USALive Auction
THE SHOREDITCH #3 BY WALTER SICKERT (UNITED KINGDOM, 1860-1942).
Oil on canvas, signed lower left and dated 1920 on the back. Monochromatic pub scene. Unframed. 23"h. 12"w.
Walter Sickert was considered a suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders.
Expected wear along the outside edges of the canvas with small holes where it was once framed. Also wear at the inside edges of the stretcher. Small dent in the canvas at the top and two small holes bottom right facing corner. Blacklight shows no inpainting. Signed lower left and on the back with the title by Sickert however there appears to be what look like initials in the lower right. Sickert signature blacklights okay.
