Notes: The Segodnyashny lubok or Contemporary Lubok publishing house was established by G. Gorodetskii shortly after the outbreak of the First World War. Over a period of three months, it produced a range of propaganda posters and postcards on patriotic themes by artists such as Kazimir Malevich, Aritarkh Lentulov, Il'ia Mashkov, Vladimir Maiakovskii, David Burliuk and Vasilii Chekrygin. Dating back to the traditions of Russian folk woodcuts, their lithographs were generally printed in four colours with deliberately simplistic contour drawings and verse descriptions by Vladimir Maiakovskii (see E. Petrova ed., Kazimir Malevich in State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, 2000, p. 378).
