Description: TIJTGAT, EDGARD. Carrousels et Baraques. 6 colored woodcut plates by Tijtgat [Tytgat] with text hand-set by Cyril Beaumont at his press, on handmade paper. Oblong 8vo, contents loose as issued in original cloth-backed pictorial boards with ties (one broken), scattered mild spotting and uneven toning; 1/2-inch vertical browned portion of half-title; plates clean and bright. Notes: first edition. number 134 of 110 numbered copies on China paper, from a total edition of 150. The Belgian painter, printmaker, watercolorist, and illustrator is best known for his delightful edition of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (1921). Carrousels et Baraques was Tijtgat''s depiction of childhood memories that came to him like "all the sparks of pearls on black velvet and the little windows of a thousand hues adorning the carousels and booths in my village."
