TORBJÖRN FORSBERG - "UPPFLÖG"
A FINE 'LOST-WAX' BRONZE CAST OF A FLUSHED WOODCOCK ON AN OAK PLINTH,
the casting signed and dated by the artist in 1996, 13 1/2in. high, 12in. wingtip to tail, the octagonal oak plinth with a plaque engraved 'Uppflög' 1996. T. Forsberg'.
Other Notes: Torbjörn Forsberg was born 1949 in Bollnäs, Sweden. He is a highly regarded sculptor of wild animals, game and fowl and works mainly with the mediums of bronze, wood and concrete. He is a passionate hunter and his extensive knowledge of bird and game anatomy has been built up over many years of studying and hunting. The realism invested in his sculptures demonstrate a genuine knowledge of his subjects and an understanding of not just the animals themselves but their body language and physical responses to situations in the wild - a skill which was honed to perfection in his previous occupation as a taxidermist. He has exhibited at numerous international exhibitions since he turned his hand full time to sculpture in 1985. His first major exhibition was the World Art Exhibit, Nürnberg 1986. Since then he has exhibited at many Swedish venues, exhibitions in France, Holland, Belgium, Germany and the Safari Club International Exhibition in Las Vegas.
He has several pieces on permanent exhibition, including the following: "Moose family" with His Royal Majesty the King of Sweden, Carl IX Gustav; "Leaping trout" at Umeå University; "Capercaillie courting" at Stockholm (Arlanda) International Airport; "Running Hare" at the Big Kalsö museum and "Goshawk searching for prey" in the city of Enköping, Sweden.
Lost-wax or cire perdue casting is an ancient process that can be dated back as far as the third millennium B.C., with its origins somewhere between the Black Sea and Persian Gulf. It is the purest and most traditional form of producing a bronze cast, taken from the artist's original sculpture.
