Description: TRIBAL: Classic Serapi Navajo men''s wearing blanket, c. 1850-1860, believed to be Germantown yarn, red ground, cream, black, and blue geometric patterns including stripes, dashes, zig zags, and diamond shapes, scattered stains, largest unraveled area roughly saucer shaped but scattered holes and unraveling also found throughout, 89 3/4" l. x 51 1/4" w. [Oral history maintains that this blanket was collected by William Ireland Starr (Bridgeport, CT, b. 1877) during a trip "out West" in the early 20th C. Starr was a neighbor of Samuel Clemens in Redding, CT, and the great-great uncle of the consignor.]
