Description: TWAIN, MARK. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Lithographic frontispiece and text illustrations by E.W. Kemble, photographic portrait frontispiece of the bust of Mark Twain by Karl Gerhardt. 4to, original full sheep, rebacked with original spine laid down with portion lost at foot, morocco lettering pieces, extremities rubbed, scuffs; contents generally clean. New York: Charles L. Webster, 1885

Notes: first edition in the scarce full sheep binding including plate on p. 283 in first state with a definite curve on the fly of Silas Phelps, that Blanck reckons "has been seen only in early prospectuses and in leather bound copies of the published book." Other early issue points include: frontispiece portrait BAL state 2; page [9] with "Decided"; p. [13] BAL state 1 with illustration caption incorrect; p. 57 ("with the was") and p. 155 (lacking final 5) both BAL first states. BAL 3415; MacDonnell, Firsts, vol. 8, no. 7/8, 1998.
