Two Pairs of Rookwood High Glaze Figural Bookends
Dated 1946
The first, molded as a pair of rooks on a terrain base, designed by William McDonald, and covered in a celadon glaze; the second, molded as a pair of owls perched atop a book and covered in a caramel glaze. Each impressed with the factory mark and date cipher: the first pair impressed with the artist's monogram and 2275; the second pair impressed 2655.
Height of first pair: 5-1/4 in (13.3 cm); Height of second pair: 5-3/4 in (14.6 cm)
