U.S. Springfield Model 1795 Type III Flintlock Musket Dated 1811
The type III Model 1795 was manufactured from 1808 to 1814. The lock plate is marked with the script "US" over a downward arched "SPRINGFIELD" in front of the hammer and "1811" behind the hammer. This predates the War of 1812 and could have seen use in the aforementioned conflict. The script "US" is marked on the left stock flat at an upward angle. The initials "CBP" are carved under the receiver. The heel of the buttplate is marked "1811". The trigger guard is the Type III with the rounded finials, flat faced hammer with beveled edge with a straight spur, frizzen with a straight toe and the frizzen spring has a spear point tip. It has an integral forged iron rounded flash pan. Bayonet lug mounted 1-1/2 inches from the muzzle on top of the barrel. The full straight grip stock has three barrel bands and the long flutes approximately half the length of the comb and steel buttplate.
