Description: SERIAL #: 38787 (receiver and rear of barrel) DESIGN: Military issue breech loading single shot. 32-5/8" round barrel. .50 caliber centerfire. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Blued steel. Military full stock with short comb. FEATURES: Blade front sight. Rear folding ladder sight. Lock plate marked with the American Eagle motif and "US / SPRINGFIELD" in front of the hammer. Dated 1863 behind the hammer. Front of breechblock stamped "1870 / (Small eagle head with crossed arrows) / US". Curved metal butt plate marked "US" on top tang. Two piece trigger guard. Smooth trigger. Two barrel bands. Sling swivels. Left side of stock marked "No 70". Top of stock in front of top tang is marked "B/18/16". Metal ramrod with slotted tip. CONDITION: Good. Little of the original finish remains on metal components. Spotty discoloration with a patchy patina. Stock shows numerous small scratches, scrapes, gouges, and areas of discoloration.
