Description: SERIAL #: 233842 DESIGN: Military bolt action with side magazine. 30" barrel. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Blued steel. Full length wood military stock with low comb and fullered forearm. FEATURES: Pinned blade front sight. Adjustable rear military sight. Left side of receiver stamped "MODEL 1898", "US / SPRINGFIELD ARMORY", and the serial number. Inspector's cartouche on left side of stock above trigger dated 1899. "P" proofed on bottom of stock at wrist behind trigger guard. The letter "E" and the number "12" are stamped in the top rear of the stock in front of the top tang of the butt plate. The letters "MNG" are stamped in the top of the stock at the wrist just behind the top tang. Two barrel bands with bayonet lug at bottom of front band. Steel butt plate with trap door reservoir for cleaning supplies (no contents inside). Period leather sling stamped with the letters "CWA" above one brass clasp and dated 1910 above that. CONDITION: Good. Less than 50% of the finish remains on metal components, most of that on the barrel. Light scratches to metal surfaces. Bore is very good. Moderate wear on stock with numerous scratches, scrapes, and dents. Moderate cracking and surface wear to leather sling. INVENTORY NO. / CATEGORY: 4808-003/C&R ESTIMATE: $500 - $700
