Description: Approximately 535 gelatin silver prints, some signed, dated and annotated with photographers' stamps verso, each 16 x 20cm (6 1/4 x 8in) or the reverse The pictures were taken between 1946 and 1953 for Westminster council by a number of photographers.The photographs bring to life London in the 40s and 50s depicting iconic landmarks that shape London, even today. Many of the photographs are annotated with detailed location maps and a record of the time at which the photograph was taken. Some of the views show public hazards that the council would record like as a modern day surveillance system. These views include uneven pavements and scaffolding across Westminster. Most importantly they show the change that has taken place in London and the development of advertisement over the past 50 years. Photographs include views of Shaftesbury Avenue, The London Pavillion, Piccadilly Circus, Empire Theatre, Leicester Square, Victoria Embankment, amongst others.
