PROVENANCE
Acquired directly from the Artist by the family of the present owner
LITERATURE
Alan Bowness and Luigi Lambertini (intros), Victor Pasmore with a catalogue raisonné of the paintings, constructions and graphics 1926-1979, Thames and Hudson, London, 1980, no.25, illustrated.
NOTE
Painted circa 1937, the year in which Pasmore and his friends Claude Rogers and William Coldstream established the Euston Road school. Pasmore was particularly attracted by the disciplined painterly methods and muted tones developed by Coldstream that were to become the characteristic aesthetic of the school. The present work shows Pasmore's concurrent interest in the work of various Ecole de Paris members, particularly the intimate domestic scenes associated with Bonnard.
