Description: SERIAL #: RR 1231 (Matching on receiver, bolt, floor plate, and on top tang of butt plate) DESIGN: Russian made military bolt action with internal magazine and hinged floor plate. 20" barrel. 7.62 x 54mmR caliber. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Blued steel. Full length wood military straight stock with fullered forearm. FEATURES: This rifle was captured in 1968 in the Ashall Valley. The Ashall valley is a valley in Vietnam's Tha Thiên–Hu Province, west of the coastal city of Hu, along the border of Laos. The valley runs north and south for twenty-five miles and is a mile-wide flat bottomland covered with tall elephant grass, flanked by two strings of densely forested mountains that vary from three to six thousand feet. The valley was one of the key entry points into South Vietnam for men and materiel brought along the Ho Chi Minh Trail by the Communist North Vietnamese Army and was the scene of heavy fighting, especially against American soldiers during the Vietnam War. Includes the export permit notification and the Registration of War Trophy Firearms, form # DD 603-1. Hooded pin front sight. Rear adjustable military sight. Top of crest dated 1947. Folding spike bayonet mounted on left front of barrel. Two barrel bands. Metal ramrod with slotted tip. Metal butt plate with top tang. CONDITION: Good. Approximately 70% of the finish remains on metal components. Light scratches, spotty pitting, and small patches of rust to metal surfaces. Bore is very good.
