Description: 9th-12th century AD. A mixed group of bronze belt mounts comprising: a lozengiform plaque with central slot; two beast-head plaques; a facing male figure with conical helmet and patterned robe; a bridle fitting, square with scoop to one edge and lobes to the other three; a quatrefoil stud. Cf. Arbman, H. Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940, table 91. 25 grams total, 19-43mm (3/4 - 1"). Property of a London businessman, from his grandfather's collection formed after World War II; thence by descent 1972. [6]
