Description: 8th-9th century AD. A gold pendant of a Abbasid caliphate dinar coin with ridged suspension loop above. 4.45 grams, 23mm (1"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired in the late 1970s and 1980s. Islamic coins were traded across the Viking world and have been discovered as grave goods or in hoards (both coins and as jewellery items) in Scandinavia and the Baltic area.
