This painting is very close to the painting sold by Sotheby's Sale NY #7668 lot 55 titled "Roberto". This large oil on canvas depicts Roberto seated with arms and hands gripped to front of bench. Signed center right "Walt Kuhn 1946" . An important work at a time when Kuhn was doing his finest paintings. A number of these clown paintings were sketched earlier in his career and finalized later.
