Description: Original Massachusetts Coastal Watercolor by Clarence E. Braley (American, 1858-1925). Signed lower left. In Frame measures 18"x14.50"x.75". Sight measures 12"x7.50". Weight is 2 pds 7 oz. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate. Born in East Freetown, Massachusetts, Clarence Braley was a self-taught artist who was active in New Bedford, Massachusetts from 1875 to 1925. He was known for his coastal landscapes and still lives. Braley was elected and served as vice-president of the New Bedford Art Club from 1907-1910. He exhibited at the Boston Art Club, Boston, Massachusetts (1906-1908), The New Bedford Art Club, New Bedford, Massachusetts (1908-1910, 1920), H.S. Hutchinson & Co., Swain School of Design, New Bedford, Massachusetts, and the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois (1915-1916). His work is also held at the Old Dartmouth Historical Society & the New Bedford Whaling Museum, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
