Description: 6th-4th century BC. A rectangular silver sheet with repoussé motif of a centaur raising an ox(?) above his head, within a pelletted border. 1.81 grams, 45mm (1 3/4"). Property of a North West London gentleman; formerly with a central London gallery in 1990. A centaur type creature had been depicted on seals during the Kassite and Middle Assyrian periods. In the later periods the creature became associated with the god Pabilsag, chief deity of the city of Larag.
