Description: 5th-4th century BC. A matched pair of gold hoop earrings, each a square-section penannular shank with facetted lozengiform cell and hardstone insert. 5.63 grams total, 17-18mm (3/4"). From an important private London collection; formed in the 1970s and 1980s. The majority of gold in the Achaemenid empire came from Egypt which became a satrapy between 525–402 BC and again between 343–332 BC.
