Description: 2nd millennium BC. A small silver spoon with shallow piriform bowl, round-section shank, ribbed collar with standing robed figure modelled in the round; the reverse of the bowl with incised detail of foliage and pellets, rear of the joint with stamped hollow triangle; the figure standing bearded in a floor-length robe with tremolier texturing, hands folded at the chest. Cf. Aruz, J. Art of the First Cities. The Third Millennium B.C. from the Mediterranean to the Indus, New York, 2003, items 88, 89; for pose and costume of figures from Mari. 12 grams, 97mm (4"). Private collection, London, UK; formed 1970s-1980s.
