Dublin 2, Dublin, Ireland
Description: William H. Taft, 27th President of the United States, on Ireland's case for independence, 1920. A three page typed letter with annotations and one page cover letter, signed by Taft and addressed to ''E.M. Moore, Esq., The Public Ledger, Room 540 Postal Telegraph Building, Chicago'', dated October 2nd 1920 and requesting to put the enclosed letter ''on the wire over the leased line to the Public Ledger''. The enclosed letter outlining Taft's reasons for disagreement with recent proposals ''to move a resolution in the League (of Nations) in favour of giving Ireland independence, in accord with the principle of self-determination.''. An interesting lot.
