Winchester Model 1895 Russian Musket with Bayonet This is a very fine original example of a Winchester Model 1895 Russian Musket that was manufactured under contract for the Imperial Russian Government during 1915-16. The Russian contract 1895 Musket is similar to the commercial M1895 Musket but is fitted with a clip guide on the top of the receiver and is chambered for the Russian 7.62MM Nagant cartridge. The musket has a blue finish with black walnut stock, full-length forearm and handguard. The musket is complete with a 16-inch knife bayonet. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1895 / - WINCHESTER - / TRADE MARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. & FGN." in three lines. The serial number, "337741" is stamped on the lower tang. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the elongated, two-line Winchester legend and patent dates. The top of the receiver is stamped with the oval "W/P" Winchester proof mark followed by "7.62/M.M.". An Imperial Russian inspection mark is stamped on the right side of the stock. The knife bayonet is finished bright with oil-finished walnut grips attached by two bright rivets. "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO." is stamped in a single line on the underside of the guard. Winchester manufactured approximately 294,000 Model 1895 Muskets for the Imperial Russian Government. The butt trap contains a bore brush and a combination screw-driver/punch.
BBL: 28 inch
Gauge: 7.62 mm Russian
Serial Number: 337741
Condition Report: Very fine. The musket retains approximately 60% of the original blue finish. There are patches of light pitting on the sides of the receiver, magazine and loading lever. The oil-finished walnut stock, forearm and handguard are in excellent condition with nearly all of the original finish and only limited storage wear. The buttplate is absent of finish, pitted, and has a silver patina. The lower sling swivel is missing. The bayonet is in excellent condition. This is a very fine example of a WWI Russian Model 1895 Musket and bayonet that is in far better condition then is typical for these weapons.
