Description: DESCRIPTION: A World War I era military grouping for Seargent Carl Rothrock who served in 28th Infantry Division of the Army National Guard. Rothrock enlisted in Company "M", Lewistown, Pa. on June 11, 1917 and was later transferred to Company "M" 112th Infantry, 28th Division. He was involved in some of the thickest fighting in France. From July 4 to September 10, 1918, he was actively engaged in the famous second battle of the river Marne in the Chateau-Thierry sector. He was wounded in the right leg on July 24th with shrapnel from an enemy gun. He returned to action on August 13th. Additionally, from September 23 to September 28, 1918, he fought in the Argonne Forest engagements. The grouping includes unit photos, roll of honor roster for Company "M" of the 8th Pennsylvania Infantry, photo with fellow soldiers Corp. Edward Hahner, Corp. Jacob K. Wagner, and Private Graham Markely, certificate of participation in the attack of July 18, 1918 during the second battle of the Marne, discharge certificate, five military caps, military pocket watch made by W. Ehrhardt of London, Sgt. stripes, buttons, crossed rifles insignias, collar insignias, delegate ribbon for Disabled American Veterans, parade photograph, and a painted portrait of Rothrock later in life. Corp. Carl E. Rothrock's name appears on page 321 of Volume III of the five book set on the 28th Division, lot #395. MEASUREMENTS: Various. CONDITION: Light wear to the wood frames. Modest mothing to one of the military caps. ESTIMATE: $150 - $250
