Zdzislaw Beksinski (Polish, 1929-2005) The Day of the Dead, pencil, 76 x 60ccm. Provenance: Bought from the collection of a film director in the 1970s, Private collection, Hertfordshire, Zdzislaw Beksinski was a renowned Polish painter, photographer and artist of fantasy. He initially studied architecture in Krakow and in the 1960s began a series of surrealist paintings; his first exhibition in Warsaw in 1964 was a sell-out. On 21 February 2005 he was found murdered in his flat in Warsaw, his work is now highly sought after
