Americana Portrait of a Quaker Gentleman(39 views)
Description: Oil on canvas - silver leaf frame. This primitive potrait is an excellent example of Americana. The tightlipped gentleman is standing in front of a column with drape, an artistic device normally seen in more refined European portraits. The penetrating eyes follow you around the room. While the frame has a warm rich golden glow, it is actually covered in silver leaf which has acquired an excellent patina over its approximately 190 years.
Condition Report: Very good condition - lovely patina - canvas relined and stretchers replaced about 100 years ago - other minor old repairs - cleaned within last 20 years.
