Description: Substantial and period oil painting of a bowl of bearded irises and a Parrot flower frog figurine by listed California artist Nell Walker Warner (American, 1891-1970), a noted still life painter who influence many aspiring student painters in her life time. A Parrot flower frog watches over the Bearded Irises in a yellow bowl of water. Nell Walker Warner was born in Richardson County, Nebraska and was a graduate of the Lexington, MO Women’s College and studied at the Los Angeles School of Art and Design. In the 1920s, she was art curator of the Tuesday Afternoon Club and studied locally with Nicolai Fechin, Fritz Werner, and Paul Lauritz. She moved to Carmel, CA in 1952 and lived there until 1970. Los Angeles Times art critic Anthony Anderson stated that she was one of the ablest floral painters America has produced. In addition of her floral still lifes, her work includes landscapes of California and New England coast. Displayed in period giltwood frame. Image, 24"H x 20"L.
