Description: A 19th century Currier and Ives titled: “The Yacht Squadron at Newport” In fine print below the image: “Entered According to an Act of Congress in the year 1878 by Currier & Ives in the Office of the Library of Congress at Washington” also: “Published by Currier & Ives” and “125 Nassau St New York”. Size: 23” x 34”. Condition: marring of the border with white splotches that appear to have eaten away and the cream colored border. Detailed images show the marring. Minor foxing to the body of the engraving. Ships in Newport Harbor that are identified are: “Madeline” “Sappho” “Tarolinta” “Columbia” “Dreadnaught” “Clypso” “America” “Pambler” “Magic” “Wanderer” “Plamer” “Fleetwing” “Peerless” “Daungless”. This is a rare example of I believe the only Currier & Ives that depicts Newport, Rhode Island. The frame appears to be contemporary with the engraving. Replaced glass.
