Notes: Fran Noel received a MFA from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado in 1965. Noel describes his work perpetuating the tradition of satire and narrative, which has always been especially potent in the art printmaking. Some of his images derive from dreams and daydreams and others from various cultural myths, including those with animals as protagonists. A common theme is one of transformation. His work as a printmaking professor includes instruction at the Colorado Woman?s College, Denver, Colorado, California State, Long Beach, California, Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana, and as a guest artist at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Humanities, and the University of Colorado, Boulder. In his printmaking career, Noel has received a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship and is a 7-time recipient of the College of Arts and Architecture Creativity Grant. Noel has exhibited his work in all 50 states, and numerous international shows highlighted by the Eighth British Print Biennial in Bradford, England, the Ljubljana Biennale 18 in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, and the 4th International Print Exhibit in Taiwan. His work has been published in numerous art and print specific publications. His work is in sixteen colleges and universities, many private collections, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the National Library of Medicine. Fran Noel retired from teaching in 2002, lives in Bozeman, Montana, and has spent his time skiing, bicycle touring in Europe, fishing, and making art in his studio.
