French Epoque Directoire Commode, or Chest of Drawers(201 views)
Description: Directoire design was a period established by Charles Percier (1764?1838) and Pier Fran?ois L?onard Fontaine (1762?1853). With their use of Neoclassical architecture and decoration, the style greatly influenced the more elaborate Empire style. The Directoire style reflected the effect of the French Revolution when pertaining to their furniture design, being more simplified than that of the earlier Louis XVI furniture This short period of time is often considered to be a transition between Louis XVI and French Empire. Our commode, according to the experts in France is referred to as ?poque, meaning it was made during this Directoire period 1793-1804. Our Old Plank restoration department has completed a thorough structural and cosmetic restoration to a very high standard.
