Georgian Fall-Front Secretary Bookcase(124 views)
Description: English oak with solid brass hardware. The desk base of this wonderful piece was made circa 1725, with the top probably added about 30 years later, and it still comes into those two pieces for ease of moving. The handmade reproduction hardware was a later replacement. It has excellent patina with a hand-rubbed shellac finish. The top has three stationary shelves. The base has two over three drawers and pull-out braces that support the opened slant-top desk front, with a nicely fitted desk interior having shelves, cubbyholes, vertical pull-out compartments, and drawers. The shaped panels in the doors harken back to William & Mary and Queen Anne styles.
