Gilt Eagle(113 views)
Description: Hand carved wood with gesso and gold leaf - metal mounting bracket. We think this excellent eagle is probably Continental and possibly was the top ornament on a wall bed canopy or graced the top of a gilt mrror -- it is definately hand carved and the beak appears to have had a ring or chain going thru it -- also the claws could have had a ring in them -- but whatever it's former use, it is beautiful and has a wonderful patina and looks great everywhere we put it.
Condition Report: Condition: good - gilding is worn and darkened with some losses - minor cracks as befits it's age.
