Description: Two late 15th-Century leaves on vellum, with miniature of St. Christopher Carrying Christ. The first leaf contains, surrounded by a richly colored floral external border and a blue, red, and gold decorative internal border, a miniature of St. Christopher carrying the Christ child across a river. With blank verso. The second leaf, presumably following the miniature in the same Book of Hours, contains the beginning of the Hymn to St. Christopher (in Latin), featuring a large 6-line ?S? in red, surrounded by thick gold and a floral design with reds, blues, and greens. The text is within a red, blue, and gold border within a floral border matching that around the leaf with the miniature. Seventeen lines of text. Reverse side with 16 lines of text and one gold two-line initial. Size: Each leaf: approx. 6.75 x 4.5 in. (175x112 mm); the miniature is approx. 3.25 x 2.25 in. (85x55mm). Total frame size: approx. 13.5x17.5 in. Bruges, Belgium: c1465; likely from the circle of Willem Vrelant. A few light smudges, a hint of toning around border of leaves. Handsomely framed.
