Large Flat Bottom Bell Tower(324 views)
Description: Sand cast glass sculpture. Each work is unique and signed by the artist.
Condition Report: Excellent Condition
Notes: The form is descended from the bronze bells of the Han dynasty. Marlene Rose liked the game of making the solid but translucent glass echo the opaque hollowness of the original bells. While it is one thing to echo the past, it is important to remember that there is always a context, a present layer of reference, in this case on slightly less light-inspired than those above. She loves the Chinese sense of the aesthetic, but the history of China speaks of outer beauty and inner turmoil, of great works made at great cost. The frozen fire in this sculpture hints at the human spirit overcoming unimaginable travail to shine in the light of personal triumph.
