LE POLE NORD - 2 WOMEN ORIGINAL FRENCH BELLE EPOQUE POSTER BY JAPHET(370 views)
Description: Other posters for the fashionable Parisian "North Pole" ice skating rink mention that the establishment offers "Perpetual Skating on Real Ice" to the accompaniment of a forty-piece orchestra. But honestly, who cares about that. If Japhet's poster is to believed, heading to the North Pole was about seeing and being seen with a bit of skating thrown in for good measure. And these impeccable Art Nouveau couture mavens-whose icy smiles lead one to believe that they'd just as soon claw each other's eyes out as hit the rink-set against a subtly radiating aurora borealis serve as an engaging calling card to the city's gliding-minded citizenry. Several 19th century designers used the pseudonym "Japhet" but it seems most likely that the artist of this poster may well have been Alexandre J. L. Jazet who, although born in 1814, was still producing illustration in the 1890s. This is an Original Vintage Poster, not a reproduction. It is in excellent condition and has been archivally backed onto linen.
