Description: Item # 5723. A set of 5 19th century Biedermeier lyre back chairs. Fruit wood. Probably Austrian. Viennese furniture of this era (1810-20) was generally fruit wood and the lyre back is a common form. The splayed front and back feet are also common design themes. These chairs retain their original upholstery foundations composed of horse hair and woven straw with muslin covers. The lyre back displays 5 brass rods attached with an upper and lower brass brace; 5 turned wood finials cap the top back of each chair. Size: 32.5” tall and the seat is 15” diameter and is 17” off the floor. Condition: ancient worm holes, considerable scuffs and mars plus splits and old repair to several legs.
