Study of Forms(55 views)
Description: This bronze sculpture is the study model that Carbonell created while studying the composition of two figures to create a feeling of intimacy and peacefulness. It is a study for a future size monumental sculpture. Maquettes derive from the French word that means model or as defined today means study model. Carbonell created thousand of sculptural drawings, from which he would choose those that moved him to transforming them into 3-dimensional sculptures. The study models allow the artist to make changes and have a better vision of the work prior to enlarging it to a sculpture or monumental size sculpture. This is the importance of a maquette. Carbonell in his personal philosophy searched for the essence of the form and the absence of detail while empowering a feeling of monumentally to his sculptures. His work has been identified with the force of Rodin, the monumentality of Moore and the simplicity of Brancusi, but in a very different and consistent personal style.
