Robert Bauer (American, b. 1942) Acrylic on Board

Lot 414606: Robert Bauer (American, b. 1942) Acrylic on Board

by Locati Auctions

April 21, 2014, 9:00 AM EST

Maple Glen, PA, USA

Estimated Price: $500 - $600

Description: Depicting a window frame in brick and stone. Signed at the lower left corner. From artnet.com "A native of Iowa, Robert Bauer was born in 1942 and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. His inclusion in the Academy's 1967 Annual Exhibition of Paintings and Sculpture led to his selection as one of Four Young Realists exhibited by the Kenmore Gallery in Philadelphia. In 1969, Mr. Bauer was featured in the 33rd Mid-Year Annual at the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH. After several more touring group exhibitions, Robert Bauer's work attracted the attention of New York dealer and collector Allan Stone, who exhibited it in 1980. Robert Bauer's work was selected for inclusion in the Janss Collection of American Realism, and was exhibited in that collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1985. Robert Bauer settled in the Boston, Massachusetts area and began to exhibit in Boston at the Thomas Segal Gallery in 1986. His work was first exhibited by Forum Gallery in a group landscape exhibition in 1990. Since beginning to show with Forum Gallery, Robert Bauer's work has been chosen for inclusion in exhibitions at Pratt Institute's Manhattan Gallery, in the 1996-1997 Best of the Season exhibition at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, CT and in the Invitational Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture in 1997 at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York. National Arms Company single shot No.2 Deringer

Lot 438: National Arms Company single shot No.2 Deringer

by Robb Partners LLC

April 21, 2014, 10:30 AM EST

Bluffton, SC, USA

Estimated Price: $1,650 - $2,500

Description: National Arms Company single shot No.2 Deringer, serial #369, .41 RF, 2 1/2" barrel with a mostly bright very good plus bore which shows some scattered light oxidation with some light pitting near the muzzle. The barrel is primarily a smooth pewter and brown patina with some very minor pinprick pitting and oxidation, also with a number of impact marks along its right sharp edge. The brass frame retains about 92-95% original silver plating which is darkening to a deep blue-gray hue, the worn-through areas a dull ocher. The engraving on the frame is still sharp, the barrel slightly softened. The smooth rosewood grips rate about excellent with nearly all their original varnish, the left grip showing slightly more wear along its sharp edge; they are stamp-numbered to the gun. The half-cock notch is slightly worn so the firing pin does not completely clear the breech allowing the gun to open; retracting the hammer slightly will allow the barrel to pivot freely, its lockup is tight
