They are built to scale with high-grade wood such as: western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. They are 100% hand built individually using plank-on-frame construction method and are similar to the building of actual ships. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop. This is a great model of a Shrimp Boat. It was handmade from strips of teak and mahogany and then painted in black and white. There are fishing nets on both side of the hull with wooden crates. The cabin is painted white with tinted blue windows. You will also find an anchor placed on top of the deck along with other boat gears. The nets together with the mast and rigging really make this boat special. This model is secured on a solid wooden base with a brass nameplate. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

Royal Oak, MI, USA

Estimated Price: $32,000 - $36,000

Description: Bertil Vallien, Upright Boat, 1985. 42 x 12 x 75?. (From a private collection) The boat forms have long been part of Viking tradition representing the passage from life to death. The faces and masks are expressionless but suggest fear or longing, love or hate, watchfulness and thought. Sometimes a face or mask is the whole sculpture, sometimes it peers out from within a modernist form, suggesting a trapped soul. This sandcast ?Upright Boat? has 6 faces or masks, 2 houses and a number of columns and steps on the surface of the sculpture. Signed ?B. Vallien Kosta Boda 305880285?.

A Moses Babcock underhammer percussion gun cane curio

Lot 30: A Moses Babcock underhammer percussion gun cane curio

by Tradewinds Antiques

April 26, 2014, 11:00 AM EST

Peabody, MA, USA

Estimated Price: $2,000 - $3,000

Description: A fine Moses Babcock underhammer percussion gun cane curio. Made entirely of metal, it has an "L" handle that measures 4 1/2" long. It has a silver end-cap that measures 1 1/2" and there are remnants of old paint remaining on the handle. It has an underhammer bar that is marked: "M. Babcock, Charlestown, Mass.". The gun operated by having the hammer strike a nib with a percussion cap that ignited a charge that in turn drove a muzzle-loaded ball. A small sight at the barrel end assisted in aiming. The overall length is 34" and the general condition is very good with working mechanics. It is American, ca 1825, and may have been the one of the first gun cane models that was made in America. Pictures of Babcock percussion gun cane examples are shown on page 317 of Dike's Cane Curiosa as well as page 355 of Dike's Canes in the United States. (Tradewinds originally sold this item in an April 29, 2000 auction.) Estimate: $2000-$3000

A great pepperbox gun cane curio

Lot 175: A great pepperbox gun cane curio

by Tradewinds Antiques

April 26, 2014, 11:00 AM EST

Peabody, MA, USA

Estimated Price: $5,500 - $7,500

Description: A great pepperbox gun cane curio. The "L" horn handle is 2" high, 4" long, and 1" thick. With a quarter turn of the handle, a nickel pepperbox pistol can be withdrawn from a metal mount inside the 7/8" nickel collar. It is a rim fire revolver with a drop down trigger that was capable of firing six small caliber shells, one at a time as the revolver spun. There is a tiny compartment with a swing-open cover for loading and removing spent shells. Additionally, there is a 4 1/4" stiletto that could have been used if all else failed. There are numbers in various places and it probably has Belgian or French hallmarks internally, which we did not access. (On page 353 of Cane Curiosa by Dike, similar pieces are shown. Most are modeled after the patent of N. Simon, the French gunsmith who made some of the best pepperbox canes in the late 19th Century. This piece might be one of his because of the close similarities.) The shaft is malacca that terminates with a 1" white metal and iron ferrule. The overall length is 34 1/8" and the condition is very good with the mechanics of the revolver in fine, crisp working order. It is ca 1895, and it is a wonderful example of the kind. It is a fine, authentic piece from the Kreh Collection. Estimate: $5500-$7500

A 14 mm breech load gun cane curio

by Tradewinds Antiques

April 26, 2014, 11:00 AM EST

Peabody, MA, USA

Estimated Price: $1,200 - $1,800

Description: A very nice 14 mm breech load gun cane curio with drop down trigger. Made of stepped malacca, it has a crook handle that measures about 8" along the arc and is 1 1/8" thick. There is a 1 2/3" plated brass collar that can be rotated so that a trigger can drop from a slot when the gun is cocked and ready the fire. The breech is opened with a twist and after loading, is cocked when the breech is closed. There is a 1 1/4" bimetal ferrule/tampion that must be removed to clear the barrel before firing. The overall length is 36 2/3" and the condition is very good with strong working mechanics. Although there are no external markings the piece is similar to the Universal breech-loading gun canes shown on page 345, 33/29 of Dike's Cane Curiosa. It is Continental, ca 1895, and it is a fine gun cane curio example. Estimate: $1200-$1800
