Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood

by Artistic Holdings Company

April 19, 2014, 5:00 AM PST

Las Vegas, NV, USA

Estimated Price: $450 - $570

Description: Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries by Susan Blackwood - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 20 x 24 Release Date: 7-2010 ???.Pakistan 1975: in the midst of a clambering market place, unable to speak the language...I became aware of the importance of the common bonds that universally unite us all. The necessity to communicate these visions, feelings and emotions became paramount. Art became my language. I have chosen as my subject matter the simple, beautiful touching moments that are common both in nature and in the life of every person. These are the moments that often pass without notice and are the very ones that lend continuity to our lives and contribute to its richness and depth. These moments are the language I use when I paint. As in any meaningful conversation, the structure of the message must be clear. Thus, my color, brush strokes, textures and composition are carefully chosen, like essential words, to convey to the viewer the message that I wish to impart. My studies of classical art techniques began when I was a child and will always continue as I strive for better clarity and higher achievement. As words are carefully chosen for a poem, I, too, limit my brush strokes and detail to relay just enough to give the viewer my thoughts and involve their imagination. I purposely leave areas of my paintings in mystery for the viewer to become engaged in the story. I strive for each painting to be a poem rather than a novel. Some of my loose paintings are like haiku poems that are simple impressionistic vignettes. While some of my paintings are like sonnets, more spelled out in detail. Through the medium that I have chosen, I strive continually to develop a rich and colorful dialog in a language that will reach the heart. Susan won Best of Show 2010 at the American Women Artists National Exhibition held in Dallas.

Even Today This Historic Setting Is Accessible Only By Horseback Or Overland Hiked For Any And All "early Morning Visitors."??about The Artist - William S. Phillips ?aviation Was My First Artistic Love,? Says William S. Phillips, ?but My True, Enduring Love Remains My Christian Faith, Home And Family. So It Is My Pleasure To Combine All Of It In My Work. The Historical Aviation Subjects, I Research; The Contemporary And Nostalgic Subjects, I Live.? Phillips Grew Up Loving Art But Never Thought He Could Make It His Livelihood. At College He Majored In Criminology And He Had Been Accepted Into Law School When Four Of His Paintings Were Sold At An Airport Restaurant. That Was All The Incentive He Needed To Begin His Work As A Fine Art Painter. Bill Phillips Is Now The Aviation Artist Of Choice For Many American Heroes And The Nostalgic Landscape Artist Of Choice For Many Collectors. Bill?s Strengths As A Landscape Painter Are What Gave Him An Edge In The Aviation Field: Respect And Reverence For A Time And Place. When One Sees His Aviation Pieces, Thoughts Are About The Courageous Individuals Who Risked Their Lives For Our Freedom. In Bill?s Nostalgic Works, The Viewer Understands Fully What That Freedom Is . . . The Precious Values That Make Life Worth Living. After One Of His Paintings Was Presented To King Hussein Of Jordan, Phillips Was Commissioned By The Royal Jordanian Air Force. He Developed Sixteen Major Paintings, Many Of Which Now Hang In The Royal Jordanian Air Force Museum In Amman. The Smithsonian Institution?s National Air And Space Museum Presented A One-man Show Of Phillips? Work In 1986; He Is One Of Only A Few Artists To Have Been So Honored. In 1988, Phillips Was Chosen To Be A U.s. Navy Combat Artist. For His Outstanding Work, The Artist Was Awarded The Navy?s Meritorious Public Service Award And The Air Force Sergeants Association?s Americanism Medal. In 1991, Three Of Phillips? Works Were Chosen As Part Of The Top 100 In ?art For The Parks,? The Prestigious Annual Fund-raiser For The National Park Service, And One Painting Received The ?art History Award? From The National Park Foundation.

Johnson, Andrew and William H. Seward

Lot 37: Johnson, Andrew and William H. Seward

by Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles

April 19, 2014, 10:00 AM PST

Los Angeles, CA, USA

Estimated Price: $1,200 - $1,500

Description: Johnson, Andrew and William H. Seward. Transcribed copies of the original Presidential pardons for the conspirators Dr. Samuel Mudd, Edmund Spangler and Samuel Arnold, 8pp, 10 x 8", originally signed in Washington, 8 Feb. 1869. With clipped signatures of Andrew Johnson and William H. Seward affixed to the copy of the pardon for Dr. Mudd; Seward's clipped signature is also affixed to the pardons for Spangler and Arnold. These copies were part of The Sang Collection which included the original pardons, and were made some 100 years ago as display copies to accompanied the original pardons. Dr. Samuel Mudd (1833-83) was convicted of aiding and conspiring with John Wilkes Booth, who stopped at Mudd's house after the assassination to have his broken leg set; it came out in testimony that Mudd knew Booth previously. Spangler (1825-75) worked at Ford's Theatre and was convicted of conspiring with Booth, even though the evidence was questionable. Arnold (1834-1906) had been part of the original plot to kidnap Lincoln and to exchange him for Confederate prisoners. He was charged with complicity and sentenced to life, along with Mudd, Spangler, and Michael O'Laughlen (1840-67), who was also part of the conspiracy to kidnap Lincoln. O'Laughlen died in prison, and President Andrew Johnson, after being importuned by Dr. Mudd's defense attorney, Thomas Ewing, Jr. pardoned Dr. Mudd and the other men. Sang Collection. Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,500.

McKinley, William

Lot 54: McKinley, William

by Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles

April 19, 2014, 10:00 AM PST

Los Angeles, CA, USA

Estimated Price: $250 - $300

Description: McKinley, William. Autograph note signed ("W McK") as President, at the bottom of a typed letter on Executive Mansion letterhead by his secretary to R.A. Alger, Secretary of War, recommending Col. Henry Page for a position in the department, 1p, 9 x 5", Washington, June 23, 1898. The secretary writes, "The President directs me to ask if there is a vancancy in your Department," but McKinley obviously wanted to make sure of the appointment, so he wrote at the bottom of the letter, "When there is a vacancy appoint. WMcK June 30/98." Perhaps Col. Page had been in McKinley's unit in the Civil War. In any event, the Spanish-American War was in full swing at this time and Page was obviously eager to be a part of it. Some toning and expected folds, else very good. The Arden Family Holdings of Beverly Hills. Estimated Value $250 - 300.
