The service that he rendered was the advocacy against the British Imperial actions as documented in his book, Egypt & Its Betrayal, that he wrote in 1908 of his 10 years in Egypt. Description: ANCIENT ROMAN MARBLE BUST OF AGRIPPINA THE ELDER, CIRCA 1ST C. A.D. ABOVE A LATE ANTIQUE MARBLE SPIRAL FLUTED COLUMN the bust was originally constructed from separate pieces of fine grain white marble; there are two areas of old repair on the nose and the chin. Agrippina the Elder, was the wife of Germanicus and mother of Gaius "Caligula" and of Agrippina the Younger. Identification supported by comparison to contemporary coinage, gemstones and other marble and bronze portraits. Life-sized head, turned slightly to the right and gazing down with large almond eyes. Her hair parted down the center, corkscrew curls covering her ears and ringlets that adeptly frame Agrippina's face and end in a queue at her nape, a traditional coiffe for Agrippina the Elder - dimensions of the bust: h: 14 in. x w: 8.25 in. x d: 5.75 in. - dimensions of the column: h: 41 in. Provenance: Giannina Fischer (nee Geiringer November 17, 1888- May 23 1936) by 1936 to the present owners. Other Notes: Letter from Dr. Paul Kieslinger e.h., dated October 25 1938 authenticating the work as being of Agrippina the Elder (see attached)
